MEET THE SINGERS/MUSICIANS

Terre Roche

Terre Roche along with her sister Maggie had the good fortune of being mentored by Paul Simon when they were teenagers. Paul produced their first album "Seductive Reasoning" which was released in 1975. She is best known as a member of "The Roches", a group she formed with Maggie and their younger sister Suzzy in the 1970's. Over the course of their career The Roches made 13 albums, toured extensively and appeared on many TV shows.
Terre went on to form "Afro-Jersey" with her friends Sidiki Conde and Marlon Cherry in which all the songs were sung with both English and Mandingo (Sidiki's native language) lyrics. Terre has two albums of her original songs - "The Sound of a Tree Falling" in which she plays and sings all the parts, and "Imprint" a duo with jazz bassist Jay Anderson. These days Terre has a vibrant teaching practice in which she gets to pass along everything she's learned about Music to her students. She and her partner, jazz pianist Garry Dial have been together for 30 years and together created "Us and Them", a collection of national anthems from 16 different countries - with performances from various musicians from those countries, all living and working in New York City at the time.
