Professor Louie







Professor Louie has emerged as one of the torchbearer’s of the true spirit of American Roots music. Seasoned live performer, prolific recording artist and versatile multi-instrumentalist, Professor Louie also wears the hat of award-winning recording producer and engineer, capturing the talents of some of the world’s most highly acclaimed musicians, most notably, The Band.

In 2023, Woodstock Records released Professor Louie & The Crowmatix vinyl and CD: Rockin’ Legacy Vol. 1 EP, and has stayed on the Relix /Jamband Charts four months and has been gaining great reviews, played on over 100 radio stations across the country and worldwide. In 2022 their all original songs release, Strike Up The Band spent ten months on the Contemporary Blues Roots Music Radio Charts, PL&C have released sixteen studio CD's, two vinyl LP’s and three DVD's on Woodstock Records.

In 1985, Louie became a part of The Band’s legacy: co-producing, engineering and performing on their three final albums, Jericho, High on the Hog, and Jubilation. He became a collaborating touring member of The Band from 1985 to 1999 until Rick Danko’s passing. It was at this time that Rick Danko christened him “Professor Louie”.

In addition to his work with The Band, Professor Louie has played with, engineered or produced an incredible roster of artists spanning a wide array of genres including: Graham Parker, Commander Cody, Dave Brubeck, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Guy Davis, solo projects of Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Jesse McReynolds, Blondie, Jose Feliciano, Livingston Taylor, The Fugs, Artie Traum, John Sebastian, Oumar Konate, Jay Black & The Americans, Buckwheat Zydeco, Mercury Rev, Rory Block, Bill Keith, Jean Redpath.

Selected Awards
• Inducted into the South Canadian Blues Hall of Fame, 2011
• Recipient Robert H. Chambers Award for Excellence in the Traditional Arts from Common Ground on the Hill, 2015.
• Inducted into The Blues Hall of Fame (NY Chapter), 2012

Professor Louie’s Woodstock Rockin’ Revue radio program on eclectic AAA stalwart, WKZE-FM for the past four years has gained a large following here in The States and Internationally & friends who are all a part of the tapestry of the Woodstock musical experience
