MEET THE SINGERS/MUSICIANS

 



Elijah Wald







Elijah Wald has been performing American roots music since the 1970s and writing about American and world styles since the 1980s. He studied guitar with Dave Van Ronk and the Congolese master Jean-Bosco Mwenda, and worked as a sideman with Eric Von Schmidt and the African American string band master Howard Armstrong, as well as playing solo gigs all over the US, Europe, and various other continents. His recordings include an LP, Songster, Fingerpicker, Shirtmaker; a CD, Street Corner Cowboys; and an online musical memoir/history with over 300 posts and video performances at https://www.elijahwald.com/songblog/

Elijah's dozen books include Dave Van Ronk's memoir, The Mayor of MacDougal Street; Dylan Goes Electric! Newport, Seeger, Dylan, and the Night that Split the Sixties; Escaping the Delta: Robert Johnson and the Invention of the Blues; How the Beatles Destroyed Rock ā€™nā€™ Roll: An Alternative History of American Popular Music; and Narcocorrido: A Journey into the Music of Drugs, Guns, and Guerrillas. He won a Grammy in 2002, performs wherever people want to book him, and is a frequent speaker on blues, folk, pop, and Mexican music.
