MEET THE SINGERS/MUSICIANS

Marilyn Rea Beyer

Emcee

"Stories, poetry and folk music have been and still are, at the core of what I do.

My first spoken word gig was at Calvin Coolidge School in Lansing, Illinois. I was in 4th grade.

The high school speech team at T.F. South in Lansing, Ill., cemented my urge to share literature and music with anybody who'd listen.

I earned a B.A. in Speech & Theatre Education (Purdue) and a Master's in Oral Interpretation of Literature (Northwestern).

I taught high school in Oak Forest, Ill., worked in PR and high-tech, married Rick Beyer with whom I raised two great and talented kids, had my dream job at WUMB-FM in Boston before a 10-year stint as PR director at Perkins School for the Blind. We came back to Chicago where I taught college-level communications. Then, lightning struck! On Saturdays nights, since August 1, 2020, I'm the host of WFMT's legendary Midnight Special - Chicago's longest-running radio show."
