David Amram







DAVID AMRAM is a legendary performer, musician (35 instruments), singer, conductor, and composer in virtually every style of music. In the arena of folk music, he has performed and/or recorded with Pete Seeger, Odetta, Bob Dylan, Theodore Bikel, Tom Paxton, Judy Collins, Peter Yarrow, Willie Nelson, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Eric Andersen, Jerry Jeff Walker, Josh White, Jr., Tom Chapin, and Patti Smith, to name a few. In the Jazz world, he has collaborated with Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Charles Mingus, and Betty Carter....in the classical world, with Leonard Bernstein, Eugene Ormandy, and Sir James Galway....in the Latin world with Tito Puente, Paquito d'Rivera and Arturo Sandoval....and he was Jack Kerouac's musical collaborator for 12 years. He has also composed more than 110 symphonies, concertos and chamber music works, in addition to composing the scores for 25 Broadway plays and 25 films, including the classics The Manchurian Candidate, Splendor in the Grass, and Pull My Daisy. He was the first Composer in Residence of the New York Philharmonic and of Shakespeare in the Park. As part of 2012 Woody Guthrie Centennial Celebrations, David composed, recorded and released the full symphonic orchestra work THIS LAND: Symphonic Variations on a Song by Woody Guthrie. David is recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from Folk Alliance International, and from the Kerrville Festival, in addition to being honored with the Pete & Toshi Seeger Power of Song Award.
